About Us

History

Two people who had similar experiences of caring for a child with cerebral palsy wanted to create a place for their children that did not make them feel like outsiders. So they put their heads together and discovered Conductive Education. This recognises a child affected by a neurological motor disorder as an individual who not only requires medical treatment, but also learning support. There are no set measures of achievement. The focus is on each child's individual progression so that they can learn to be themselves.

Bringing the principles of this from Hungary to Sheffield, the two parents founded Paces School for Conductive Education in 1997. It was the first Non-Maintained Special School in the UK to provide both the National Curriculum and Conductive Education.

What We Can Do for You Now

The founders did not want to set up an exclusive centre for those with disabilities. The grounds were large enough to house many different things, so they established Paces Campus Community Centre. Everyone, especially those who feel like 'outsiders' for whatever reasons, can come here to socialise, learn and have fun.

Paces Campus represents growth, the growth of children into adults and the growth of an individual's skills, talents and confidence. It is home to a community day nursery; an out of school club; an indoor play centre; an art gallery and studio; a sports hall and studio; community cafe; three social enterprises and three charities, and office facilities for business support.

Accessibility

You can find Paces Campus next to Westwood Country Park. People rate us as friendly and accessible with plenty of parking space. It is near to Junctions A35 and A36 of the M1 motorway, and the A61 Trunk Road. Buses stop right opposite the Campus, and it is close to the centres of Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley.
